The term “ShoeShine Boyz” affectionately applies to ALL young men and women who take pride in whatever job they do, regardless of how humbling the experience. Doc considers himself an original ‘shoeshine boy.’ At an early age you could see the young Adolph attempting to whistle a tune with a spring in his step, carrying his older brother Oscar’s wooden shoeshine box around the community. He was on an eternal quest for nickels and dimes. His repeated expressions of pride in his work struck a cord with everyone in the community. Armed with only an aspiration for greatness and minimal equipment of a homemade wooden box, cheap black and brown polish, and old cotton rags, he was on his way to become a businessman.
